Rangers beat Woodbury!

January 17, 2012
By Jen Wagner of Forest Lake Girls Basketball

Forest Lake traveled to Woodbury on Friday leaving with an impressive win over the Royals 56-48.  The Rangers swept the Woodbury schools this week with back to back wins on the opponents home courts.  The Royals, being outsized by the Rangers,  relied on a packed in zone defense and waves of players coming in and out of the game.  The Rangers remained poised and with key coaching adjustments, good ball movement and important free throws were able to overcome leads by Woodbury to close out the game.  While many players contributed to the success on Friday, great ball control and passing by Ranger freshman Hannah Vidland, stingy defense and floor leadership by Emily Peters and scoring by Bailey Norby led the way.

The Forest Lake JV team took on an aggressive Woodbury team on Friday.  The Rangers had a fierce 22 point lead in the first half but the Royals would not give up so easily.  Woodbury came charging back and the Rangers struggled at the free throw line.  Tough play by the Forest Lake team allowed their lead to stay and they beat Woodbury 59-33.  Abby Moeller led the Rangers with 9 followed by Miranda Rice with 8.

The Forest Lake sophomore team loses to conference opponent Woodbury on Tuesday 42-19.  The Royal quickness and effective shooting was just too much for the Rangers this night.  Forest Lake could not find any rhythm offensively and was unable to counter the punches thrown by Woodbury on their home court.  While the score does not always represent the effort, the young Rangers continue to make small improvements in areas of the game including extra effort tonight on boxing out their opponents and rebounding.
