Lady Bulldogs Ban Together and Slay Dragons
November 14, 2013By Scott Wallace of Fisk University
NASHVILLE- Stevonna Scott scored 30 points and sophomore Rashida Ademosu came off the bench to add 18 points and nine boards as the Fisk Lady Bulldogs (2-2) defeated inner-state rival the Lane College Lady Dragons 84-69 (0-2). This marked the second time this year that Scott, a transfer from Chattanooga State, scored at least 30 points in a game. The junior combo guard is averaging 29.8 points, per game, which ranks her first in Division 1 of the NAIA, in her first four games for Fisk. She also scored 37 points in an exhibition game against NCAA Division 1 Lipscomb University.
"I am letting the game come to me," said Scott. "We have some great players here. They are getting me the ball in good shooting positions and making it easy for me. I had a horrible shooting night the last game we played. I didn't want to force anything today but my shot was falling so I kept shooting."
Ademesu played aggressive all night on both ends of the floor. She was credited with four steals and she had eight deflections. Nacori Foreman had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Foreman also recorded seven blocks. Ataya Horn added 10 points. Captain Janine Davis just missed getting a double-double of her own. She ended up with 10 points and nine assists. Davis played the entire 40 minutes.
"We all played well tonight," said Davis, "We only had seven players dressed so we knew we had to play a lot of minutes. Keona (Grey) and India (Pruitt) logged some huge minutes for us. I am distributing the ball more this year. We had to ban together to win this one."
