Georgia Highlands College reports:
Lashanta Clardy, one of the stars of the inaugural Georgia Highlands College women’s basketball season, has signed to play with Fisk University in Nashville, where she will complete her junior and senior years. Clardy has been offered a full scholarship to Fisk and will enroll this fall.
Although she was a major contributor to the team’s success during the season, she began the year on the sidelines due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery in September, just before play began. She returned to the court at the end of November, working diligently to regain fitness. Her hard work paid off, as she averaged five points, four rebounds and three assists per game.
Fisk is part of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Founded in 1866, Fisk University is a leading liberal arts university in Nashville, and is designated as a HBCU, a historically black college or university. Its athletics program offers nine sports that provide student athletes with a positive environment in which to learn, live, compete and practice.
Brandan Harrell, women’s basketball head coach at GHC, praised Clardy’s determination and commitment during 2012-2013. He said, “Lashanta worked hard on the court and off the court, and will always be remembered as the first graduate in GHC program history. She will have a great career at Fisk."
