Home » Men's Basketball NewsGCAC Names Fisk Junior Darrell Miller as Their Player of the WeekFebruary 19, 2013 Fisk UniversityHattiesburg, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced today that Fisk University junior Darrell Miller won the Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 17, 2013. Miller, a 6’7 forward, averaged 19.0 and 12.7 to lead his team to a 2-1 record for the week. Miller had two games in a row with 24 points and 18 rebounds against Lane (Tn.) College and Talladega (Al.) University. Against #11 ranked Xavier (La.) University he scored the winning basket with 2.2 seconds to play after being plagued by foul trouble during the game. “Darrell is one of the best in the conference. He has worked hard all season. This honor means a lot to the Fisk family. He deserves the honor. His teammates are excited for him,” said an elated Fisk Men’s Head Coach Derek Watkins. Miller and his Bulldog teammates will be back in action with their final home game of the season this Thursday against Oakwood (Al.) University. It’s Senior Night and all athletic programs seniors along with four male and two female basketball players will be honored. Women’s game starts at 6 p.m. Recognition of Seniors, with the exception of Women’s basketball will be honored during the break between the two games. The Women’s basketball seniors will be honored during halftime of the Men’s game.
