Bucks win Playoff Game

February 22, 2011
By Quame Patterson of Hoke County High School

The Bucks played great team defense in the second half to hold off a good Laney team. The final score was 65-62. This was the first playoff win for the Bucks since the 2002-2003 season.

In the first quarter, the Bucks and the Buccaneers were pretty much even. The Bucks had a 16-15 lead. In the second quarter, Laney went on a 20-9 run, giving them a 35-25 halftime lead. In the third quarter, the Bucks began playing better on the defensive end and went on a 12-2 run of their own, with key rebounds from Tarique Thompson, and Kentrel Black. Billy Brunson ran the floor well in the second half and his shot was on hitting 4 three point baskets for the game. Timothy Haggie played better in the second half before he injured his ankle. In the fourth quarter, the Bucks had some key rebounds as well as some big baskets to seal the win.

Leading scorers for the Bucks were: Billy Brunson with 20, Kentrel Black with 15, Tarique Thompson with 13, Timothy Haggie with 11, and Jayvoine Parker with 6.

The Bucks are now (12-12) for the season and will travel to Garner to take on the Garner Trojans in the second round of the NCHSAA state playoffs. The Trojans are (24-0) after beating EE Smith last night 87-67. The game will be Wednesday and gametime is 7 pm. Come out and support the Bucks.
