Girls Soccer

May 7, 2014
By Colin McDavid of Hoke County High School

This was a week of mixed results.  We first defeated Purnell Swett 5-0 in the first round of the conference tournament with Ashelynn Priest scoring 3 goals and an assist while Lucy Walrath scored 1 goal.  The girls played well and with great energy.  Their combinations were working  and the defense was outstanding. Goalkeepers  Abigail Reyna and Briana McNair did the best they could in goal where they faced many shots.

Then we went to Pinecrest to play them in the semi-finals.  Pinecrest defeated us 9-0.  Despite the lopsided defeat their were many positives.  The girls never gave up and stuck to their word of working hard.  On the night Pinecrest was just the better team.  It was also very difficult to sustain any kind of momentum with the many injured players.  At the same time there were lots of positives especially with the girls who had not been playing much stepping in and playing very well.  Players like Latania Coleman, Kaylee Myers, Asia McMillan, Shelby Robertson, and Ashley Pfeiffer stepped and gave us quality time on the field.
