April 1, 2014
Hoke County High School

Hoke County and Pinecrest have joined forces for a fundraiser to honor Hoke County baseball coach Mike Ray and benefit the cause of fighting ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease.

Ray is currently battling the disease, and the two schools decided to unite forces to raise money for research into a cure.

This Friday, Pinecrest will travel to Hoke for softball and baseball games, softball at 5 p.m. and baseball at 7 p.m.

Both schools are selling T-shirts at $15 each, with money going to ALS of North Carolina, which will be donated in turn to the Catfish Hunter Foundation. Hunter, a North Carolina native, New York Yankee great and Hall of Famer, was a victim of ALS.

In addition to the T-shirts, there will be a 50-50 drawing Friday, along with food sales to raise money.

T-shirts can be purchased at the game or online. The web address for online orders is

The sale code is DEFEATALS.

For other information about the online sale of shirts, email Gray Cecil at gcecil7@gmail.com.
