There is Still a Chance...

November 3, 2009
Hoke County High School

As strange as it may seem, there is still a chance for the Hoke County Football team to make the state playoffs, even with 2 wins and one game to go.  What needs to happen for this to happen is this;

Lumberton needs to beat Purnell Swett.  This would give Lumberton sole possession of 2nd place in the SEC.  It would also drop Purnell Swett to 2-3 for the season.

Hoke would need to defeat Pinecrest this Friday.  This would give Hoke a 2-3 record for the season.  It would also give Pinecrest a 2-3 record for the season.

This would give a three way tie for third place in the SEC.  Every conference gets the top three teams into the playoffs.  So, after the draw to break the tie, if Hoke were lucky enough to draw the 3rd place tab, they would be going to the playoffs with a 3-7 record.

Pinecrest and Purnell Swett would also go as wild cards, giving 5 of the six SEC teams an opportunity to play in the State Playoffs.  Stranger things have happened.  This is probably a longer shot than 4 teams from the same conference playing for the State Championship like last year.
