Playoffs Begin Tuesday at Raz Autry Stadium

November 3, 2009
Hoke County High School

For the third straight season, the Hoke County Fighting Bucks (12-5-2) will play the Cape Fear Colts (12-10-0) in the opening round of the state playoffs.  Hoke is the #2 seed out of the Southeastern Conference, while Cape Fear is the #3 seed out of the Mid-South Conference.  Two years ago, the Bucks upset the Colts 4-1 at Cape Fear in a thrilling overtime match.  Last year, the Colts dominated a physical match between the two sides and prevailed 5-1.  Earlier this season, the teams played a hard match at Raz Autry Stadium.  The Colts would score two goals in the first nine minutes of the match, but the Bucks would answer with six unanswered goals to win 6-2.
"We know this is a going to be a very difficult match," Coach Derek Butler said.  "We seem to be creating a little playoff rivalry with them.  They always play hard so we are going to have to bring our best effort to move on."
The match will begin at 7:00 at Raz Autry Stadium.  This will be the first-ever home state playoff match for the Bucks.  The winner of this match will play the winner of a match between Clayton (15-5-0), the #1 seed from the Greater Neuse River Athletic Conference, and Laney (13-6-0), the #4 seed from the Mideastern Conference.  Their match is slated to be played Tuesday also.  The second round match will be played at the home of the highest remaining seed, and will likely be played on Saturday.
