3 HC Golfers Earn Regional Berth

October 16, 2012
Hoke County High School

Let me start off by saying that I have raised our goals from year to year for the last two years, and that none of the females that are in the program now, were in the program then.  They are either first year golfers or second year golfer within the program.  Here is a synapses of the year.
Season Goals -Finish 4th (or better) -Team Total of 425 (or less) at each match -Team Total of 410 (or less) at least once -2 Ladies qualify for regionals -Improve personal stroke averages by at least 5 strokes
Going into the last match or the year, the team's highest total for the year was 424.  We had shot below 410 twice this year with a 402 at home (Bayonet) and a 408 at Pinecrest Country Club (Lumberton).  Goal 2 and 3 Accomplished.
These are the stroke improvements for each golfer throughout the year. Megan Munroe (improved by 5 strokes) Briana Locklear (improved by 13 strokes) Alexis Rodriguez (improved by 11 strokes) Hailey Johnson (improved by 16 strokes) Kelsey Lorenzen (improved by 6 strokes) Brittany Taylor (improved by 13 strokes) Symonne Thompson (improved by 11 strokes)
Goal 5 Accomplished
Going into the last match, we were tied with Purnell Swett in team score for third.  The winner of the last match between the Bucks and the Rams would take that position.  When Purnell Swett posted a team score of 400 on the board, tension set in pretty tough on all of us.  After about 5 minutes of waiting, and a thunderstorm brewing over the Pinehurst Resort Clubhouse, our score had been posted.  But, my team was not around to see the posting.  Lighting struck and our parents guided the ladies to the bus.  When I got to the bus, I started reading the team scores.  Purnell Swett 400 and the Lady Bucks shot a 391.  Goal 1 Accomplished, Goals 2 and 3 = obliterated.  We finished ahead of our program goals by finishing 3rd.
These were medalists for our match Megan Munroe fired a 75 Hailey Johnson pitched in at a 101 (Career Best) Briana Locklear fired a 103 Alexis Rodriguez shot a 110
other scores were Brittany Taylor 117 Kelsey Lorenzen 120 Symone Thompson 120
Last but not least, we had 3 Ladies qualify for regionals Megan Munroe Hailey Johnson Briana Locklear This is the most we have had qualify since I have taken over the program. Goal 4, one upped!
Also, Megan Munroe was selected to all conference.  The first Lady Buck to do that since I have been here. This was a goal that I had set for next season.  We accomplished it one year early.  If you see any of these young ladies, please congratulate them.  This is a milestone for this program, especially for a team with no seniors.  I am very proud of all of them.  They have represented this High School and this County very well.  I would say this has been a great season, but we are not done yet.  Regionals next Tuesday.
