Teagan McKinlay couldn't have capped her prep track and field career in much better fashion.

The Geraldine High senior raced to six medals, accounting for 42 1/2 of Geraldine's 50 points, to lead the Tigers to the runner-up trophy at the state Class C meet at Bulldog Memorial Stadium in Butte.

McKinlay earned first-place honors in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, with times of 12.95 and 26.41; won the 100 hurdles (15.73) and 300 hurdles (45.46); and ran the anchor legs on the third-place 400 relay team and the fourth-place 1,600 relay team. It was her second straight 100 hurdles title; she won in 15.63 seconds last year. She placed second in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100 at the 2008 state meet.

The week before, McKinlay won titles in the 100 and 200 dashes and both hurdles races to lead Geraldine to the third-place trophy in the Ralph Halverson Northern C divisional meet at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls.

Entering the state meet, McKinlay had Class C bests of 12.4 in the 100, 25.9 in the 200, 15.59 in the 100 hurdles and 45.59 in the 300 hurdles.

A fine all-around athlete, McKinlay earned first-team District 8C honors in basketball and first-team District 7C honors in volleyball as a senior.

She will attend Montana State University on a track scholarship.

Josh Neumiller, Glasgow

The Glasgow High boys' track and field team earned the runner-up trophy at the state Class B track and field championships at Legends Stadium in Kalispell, thanks in part to a strong effort by senior sprinter Josh Neumiller.

Neumiller accounted for 20 of Glasgow's 43 points, as he won the 100-meter dash in 11.33 seconds, placed second in the 200, and anchored the second-place 400 relay team. He ran a 22.53 in the 200, 20 hundredths of a second behind Casey Nickol of Shelby. The Scotties' clocked a 44.14 in the 400 relay, finishing .18 of a second behind Manhattan.

He improved on both of his efforts in the 2008 state meet, where he placed second in the 100 with an 11.23 and took fifth in the 200 with a 23.03.

Neumiller won the 100 in 11.32 and placed second in the 200 as Glasgow won the Northern B divisional championship on May 23.

The Scotties captured the District 2B title the week before. Neumiller earned wins in the 100 and 200 and ran the anchor leg on the victorious 400 relay team.

Neumiller earned first-team District 2B honors at running back after helping the Glasgow football team post a 9-1 record last fall. He rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns in a 39-6 first-round playoff victory over Fort Benton.
