INSPIRATION FOR RUNNERS
Girls Team Places 2nd at Knights Under the Lights Invite!
April 15, 2014By Sarah Keiser of Armstrong Girls Track & Field
Alright, who ordered the frigid weather?! Fortunately we had close to perfect weather conditions last Friday for the Knights Under The Lights Invitational at Irondale High School!
This was Armstrong's first year being invited to this meet and we sure did make an entrance! The team placed 2nd out of 8 teams and the Half Distance Meley Team and Distance Medley Teams broke 2 meet records! The Half Distance team made up of Mae Barnes, Chyanna Hofer, Jordan Gray, and Megan Stuart. The Distance Medley team made up of Megan Stuart, Jordan Gray, Anna Nachbor, and Hannah Rudd. Look for their names to appear in next year's meet program under 'current record holders'! How exciting!
We had many other notable performances on the distance running side of things. The girls 4x800 relay team placed second and ran our fastest 4x800 race of the 2014 season thus far! Nice work Ellee Petersen, Hannah Rudd, Anna Nachbor, and Dottie Anderson! Kara Andersen finished 3rd in the 1600 meter run and ran a personal best time of 5:41.1. Kara also ran the 800 meter run and placed 1st! Leah Rudd and Kelsi Rippberger ran the girls 3200 meter run finishing 3rd and 7th respectively, and both girls ran personal best times. And finally the girls 4x400 finished in 2nd place. Nice work Mae Barnes, Ellee Peterson, Jordan Gray, and Megan Stuart!
Looking forward to this week, we have two meets on the schedule. Today the team will be at Centennial High School. For my distance runners, only runners who are not competing in a varsity event on Thursday will be attending this meet. The bus will depart AHS today at 2:30 and will pick up PMS athletes at 2:35pm. Return time is approximately 7pm. The runners competing in a varsity event on Thursday will stay back at the school and do a workout on their own.
Thursday's meet is an exciting one. It is our home invitational; the Armstrong Invite! This is a varsity limited entry meet, however all distance runners will be competing as there will be a JV 1600 meter race and the beginning of the meet. There is no early release for high school athletes for this meet, however middle school athletes should be released at 2:10pm, so they can walk over to AHS and begin warming up for their events.
Our home invitational on Thursday is one of the team's biggest fund raisers, so bring your friends and family to cheer on the team! Don't forget to bring a few dollars each to pay for entrance into the event as well as for some tasty refreshments at our concession stand! There will also be t-shirts for sale and hold onto your ticket stub because we will be raffling off some fabulous prizes throughout the meet!
Thanks again for your continued support of the AHS Girls Track and Field Team!
