Welcome to week 5!
Greetings Falcon athletes and fans, and welcome to week 5 of the 2014 season. Luckily this week has brought some warmer weather to accompany our first outdoor meets of the season! Whew! Just in time!
On tap for this week, we have 2 meets scheduled. The first is an unlimited entry meet at Osseo. Unlimited entry means that it is open for ALL athletes to participate! NICE! The bus will leave AHS tomorrow Tuesday April 8th promptly at 2:30pm and will stop to pick up the middle school athletes at PMS at 2:35pm. Don't be late; the buses will leave without you!
This meet will be run on what we track and field aficiondado's call a "rolling schedule". This means there is no specific or concrete time schedule for the events. They will just simply move onto the next event on the track once the previous event finishes. The buses should arrive back to AHS at approximately 7pm. Please make sure that athletes are prepared with warm clothing and lots of layers. This is an outdoor meet and there will be no indoor space available. Remember this is Minnesota and it could be 60 degrees and warm and sunny when school lets out, but by the time the sun begins to set it could dip below freezing! Long pants, jackets, hats, and mittens are HIGHLY encouraged!
Later on this week we have a Varsity only/limited entry meet; Knights in the Lights Invitational at Irondale High School on Friday 4/11/14. Only selected athletes will be participating in this meet. Athletes should check with their event coaches to see if they will be competing. For the distance girls, I will have a line-up posted and viewable by Wednesday evening.
Remember that team photos will be taken this Thursday 4/10/14 during practice. Order forms have been distributed. Athletes should see Coach Fisher if they still need one. Please note, all athletes will be included in the team photo. So even if you aren't ordering photos, you will need to be prepared to appear in the team photo! This means you will need to bring your COMPLETE uniform to practice that day! Complete uniform consists of 4 pieces of school issued apparel: 1) Singlet 2) Shorts 3) Warmup pants 4) Warmup jacket. Also don't forget to bring your award winning SMILE!
Lastly, the distance crew held an intersquad 2 mile time trial on Saturday during practice. We had fabulous turnout and 13 of the 16 girls who ran finished with an all-time personal record! NICE! Jordan Gray, Laura Mayer and Samantha Parsons all shattered their previous 2 mile personal records by over 1 minute! Kelsi Rippberger ran it for her first time and led the 2nd heat from start to finish! Not too shabby for a rookie!
That's all for now folks! Hope to see you all out cheering on the Falcons attomorrow's meet in Osseo!
