Eureka Boys Tennis Undefeated to Date

Although the Eureka Wildats boys tennis team has just come through the teeth of their dual match schedule undefeated, with big wins over tough teams (Parkway Central, Lafayette, Marquette, Parkway West, and Ladue), they are not completely unscathed.

Coach Conley is concerned that the team has lost some of its energy, so he sent his charges home from their latest matches on Saturday with a message: Get your sleep, eat well, and be ready to play multiple matches in a single day at the upcoming Conference, District, and Sectional tournaments.

As temperatures rose into the 90's on Saturday, the Wildcats played matches against Cape Girardeau Central and Farmington. Although they won almost every singles and doubles conflict of the day, many of their wins were by very narrow margins. Nonetheless, they came through with two team victores, pushing their record to 15-0. The Wildcats will be going for an undefeated dual match record this week when they take on Ritenour May 3rd.

The challenges only get tougher this week. A unique three-day conference tournament opens on Monday, April 30th, at the Lafayette High School courts. Sixteen area teams will be taking part, and the Wildcats find themselves competing in a top flight segment of the tournament that includes the four best conference teams. Match play will be the toughest they've seen so far this year.

The 2012 boys tennis team is already, statistically, the best Eureka High School has ever put on the hard courts. Those courts will be getting hotter in more ways than one as the season comes to its close and Spring weather gives way to summer. The Wildcats hope to prove they can take the heat at the next level, staring with the conference tournament this week.
