The best of the best gathered to compete at The 2013 Carl Lewis Invitational. Athletes flocked from around the nation filling events to 30-44 heats. Students from Alief Elsik’s track and field include Dedric Johnson (freshman), Finest Smith (jr), Ishmael Zamora (jr), Edward Simmons (sr), Casey Williams (sr), and Darius Doakes (sr). Dedric Johnson placed 55 of 103 in 60m prelims at 7.45 seconds; 36 of 89 in 200 m dash at 24.41 seconds; and 55 of 92 in 400m at 55.89 seconds. Finest Smith placed 108 of 158 in 60m prelims at 8.49 seconds. Ishmael Zamora placed 2nd of 32 60m hurdle prelims at 8.28 seconds and won 3rd overall in 60m hurdles at 8.12; Zamora also and placed 3rd of 24 jumpers in long jump with 6.62 meters. Edward Simmons placed 20th of 103 runners in the 60m dash prelim at 7.16 seconds. Casey Williams placed 18 of 103 runners in 60m at 7.16 seconds; and 10 of 24 jumpers in long jump at 6.21 meters. Darius Doakes placed 28 of 32 in 60m hurdles at 9.70 seconds. Elsik’s athletes were happy with their results. Smith said, “I came out here today to improve my time, and that’s exactly what I did.” The Alief Elsik High School athletes competing at the Carl Lewis Invitational are amped and eager for Elsik High School’s track season. The rams retire to their den training to excell this track season.
