Westward, Whoa!

July 10, 2011
By Ryan Koetter of Ellinwood High School

Ellinwood Community Theater, in conjunction with Ellinwood High School, will present the musical melodrama "Westward, Whoa!" to kick off After-Harvest Festival activities.  Performances are scheduled for Wed., July 13 and Thurs., July 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the EHS Auditorium.

This fast-paced comedy is filled with a stable of goofy characters:  a hero, Chuck Wagon (played by EHS alum Brett Lyman), a sweet heroine, Candy Cane (played by Sara Hayden), and the villainous Smiling Slade (played by John Sturn).  When the wagon train breaks down, outside the town of Vinegar Bottle, it gets robbed by the mysterious outlaw known as "The Snake."  Through a crazy twist, poor Chuck is accused of being the culprit!  Proving his innocence may not be easy, but it sure is hilarious!

The cast also features current EHS students Connor Birzer, Tiara Espinosa, Hannah Maddy, and Stephanie Troyer, along with Grady Bolding, Katlin Fuel, and Angie Maddy.  Several EHS graduates also round out the cast:  CJ Bookout, Nick Espinosa, Montara Johansen, Carli Newkirk, Abby Thill and Cassie Williams.

The show is directed by Julie Ann Jacobs, with technical direction by Leon J. Sobba.  Tickets are $5 and are available at the door, at Kimple Furniture, or at Community Bank of the Midwest.
