Boys' finish 4th at state golf tourney

The Panther golf team, led by senior Garrett Hinton, finished in fourth place at yesterday's KHSAA State Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club.
Elizabethtown shot a 51-over par (627) as a team, and Hinton fired and even par 72 in Round 2 to finish at +2 (146), four strokes behind Justin Thomas of St. X and Lexington Christian's (LCA) Hunter Stewart (-2). Thomas defeated Stewart on the second hole of a sudden death playoff this morning. Russellville's Paul Neal Sansom finished third at +1, after leading at the end of Round 1.
St. X won its second consecutive team championship with a 30-over par (606), one stroke ahead of LCA. Lexington Henry Clay finished third, three strokes ahead of Elizabethtown.
OTHER E-TOWN SCORES:
Mason Haynes, a junior, had a two-round score of +10 to tie for 15th place; senior Clay Hinton shot a +13 and tied for 26th. Junior Terry Jones carded a +28, one stroke ahead of Ian Black, a freshman. The best four scores make up the team score.
ROUND 1 SUMMARY:
Elizabethtown was in third place with a 24-over par (312), and trailed St. X (+12) and Lexington Christian (+14). Garrett Hinton, who won the region for the second consecutive year, birdied three of his first five holes before finishing with a 2-over par 74, tied for sixth overall.
Haynes finished tied for 10th place at +3 for the round. Clay Hinton shot a 6-over par 78, and is tied for 18th. |
