How do West Coast Teams fare on the East Coast?

One of the most common football betting principles is that West Coast teams tend to struggle when they play on the East Coast, especially when such games are played at 1pm ET. The logic holds that since these teams from sunny California or rainy Seattle are playing in what their internal clocks says it´s 10 in the morning, their play has to suffer in some way.

This adage is almost as popular as "Teams play better after a bye", "Big underdogs cover at home", and a few other football betting ideas that people simply assume as truisms. In the case of West Coast teams travelling across the country to play on the first slotted time, does the notion really hold true?
