Central Florida Knights (2007 - Pres)

The Knights have some holes to fill especially at QB and OL. If they find the right mix, they will compete for another conference championship. Blake Bortles is off to the NFL after leading the Knights to the ACC title and a bowl win over Baylor. Sophomore Justin Holman is the leading candidate to take over under center. Holman will be challenged by redshirt freshman Pete DiNovo and true freshman Tyler Harris. Boise State transfer Nick Patti will also be in the mix once he becomes eligible.

The Knights also lost RB Storm Johnson who opted to go to the NFL. Johnson will be hard to replace after rushing for 1,139 yards and 30 receptions out of the backfield. Sophomore William Stanback rushed for 443 yards as a back-up.

The receiving corps will return three starters including Rannell Hall (57 receptions), JJ Worton (47) and Breshad Perriman (39). TE Justin Tukes also returns.

Three new starters will make their debut in 2014 including RG Aaron Evans, RT Michael Campbell and LT Chester Brown. All-ACC performers Jordan and Justin McCray have departed and Torrian Wilson will move from LT to guard.

Central Florida returns eight starters on defense, including All-ACC performers LB Terrance Plummer and CB Jacoby Glenn. 2nd team S Clayton Geathers, DE Thomas Niles (4 sacks) and S Brandon Alexander (3 INT’s) form a solid nucleus. Central Florida ranked third in the ACC in scoring defense and fourth in total defense in 2013. The Knights will look to JC transfers DT Lance McDowdell and ILB Errol Clarke to make an immediate impact.

Replacing Bortles will be the main focus for the Knights. Depth at RB is also a concern. Replacing three starters on the offensive line will be a concern. Until the offense gets up to speed, the defense will have to hold down the fort.

Central Florida will be tested in their first two games against Penn State (Ireland) and at Missouri.
