Whether they happen in the offseason or in the middle of July, trades are usually one of the most exciting parts of baseball. After all, fans of each team can always dream that their GM can outsmart everybody and land the final piece of the puzzle, or maybe a losing franchise can unload a limited veteran in exchange of a Baseball America prospect, or how about taking a shot on a down-on-his-luck player that only seems to need a change of scenery?

All in all, baseball trades tend to trump trades in any other sport, and the 2014 trade deadline was living proof of this idea.

The pre-deadline days had already seen the Angels solidify their bullpen by acquiring Jason Grilli and Huston Street; ditto for the Tigers, who got Joakim Soria on the cheap from the Rangers.
