Red Wings release design for new arena

There are almost no windows in Joe Louis Arena, save for a couple of holes on the doors. The press box looks more like a bar and less like an area for working. The stairways are dark and damp while the concourse isn't much brighter.
It's still a piece of history, with great sight lines for a hockey game, that has been home to years of history. But it has become outdated, though, and quickly.
Now, the fourth-oldest arena in the NHL is one step closer to closing its doors to the Red Wings. The Ilitch family, which currently own the Red Wings, Tigers and Little Caesers pizza chain, announced on Sunday its updated plans for an upcoming arena as a new home for the team, and plans for the area around it.
