2014 AUBURN TIGERS FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Auburn Tigers (1993 - Pres)

COACH: GUS MALZAHN 12-2 @ AUBURN, OVERALL 21-5

OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR: RHETT LASHLEE

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR: ELIS JOHNSON

LAST LEAGUE TITLE: 2013

RETURNING STARTERS: 13, 7 OFFENSE, 6 DEFENSE Auburn Tigers (2004 - Pres)

Auburn played for the National Championship in 2013 and the Tigers believe they can make a return trip because of QB Nick Marshall.  Marshall became one of college football’s top playmakers in 2013.  Marshall helped the Tigers become the first SEC team to lead the country in rushing at 328.3 yards per game. Auburn lost Tre Mason who became a Heisman finalist.  If the Tigers are to take their game to the next level Marshall will have to become a better passer.  The running game will be in good shape with Marshall, Cameron Artis-Payne, Corey Grant and redshirt freshman Peyton Barber.  The offensive line returns four starters including RT Avery Young, RG Chad Slade, C Reese Dismukes and LG Alex Kozan.  Auburn will have a bevy of talented receivers including Sammy Coates, D’haquille Davis, Ricardo Lewis, Quan Bray, Marcus Davis, Melvin Ray and TE’s CJ Uzomah and Brandon Fulse.

Auburn Tigers (1998 - Pres)

The Tigers defense is now ready to take the next step after one year of seasoning under D-Coordinator Ellis Johnson.  The strength will be the d-line despite losing All-everything Dee Ford.  Carl Lawson, Montravius Adams and Elijah Daniel will team with Gabe Wright, LaDarius Owens, Angelo Blackson, Ben Bradley and Jeff Whitaker to form a very deep and talented defensive line.  This may be one of the most athletic lines in college football. The linebackers are led by Cassanova McKinzy and Kris Frost.  Robenson Therezie will be joined by Justin Garrett (injured in 2013) at the Star LB position. Both will also play in the dime package.  CB Jonathan Mincy and S Jermaine Whitehead are the only two starters returning in the secondary.

It will be difficult to match what happened last year for the Tigers but with Marshall back for his senior season and a very talented group on both sides of the football, Auburn will make plenty of noise when it comes to picking the four playoff teams.
