 Alabama Crimson Tide (2001 - 2003)

Alabama has become a football program that simply reloads year after year. They always seem to have a surplus at every position. The competition at quarterback in the spring came down to Florida State transfer Jacob Coker, dual threat Blake Sims and redshirt freshman Cooper Bateman. Nothing has been officially decided as we quickly come upon fall practice. Whoever is under center will have to find a way to replace AJ McCarron. The job will be made easier with so many weapons returning from last year’s team that went 11-2. Running back TJ Yeldon amassed 2343 yards and scored 26 touchdowns in his first two seasons. Joining Yeldon will be Derek Henry to form a good complement as the number one and number two running backs. WR Amari Cooper will make the new quarterback and his transition a whole lot easier. Cooper is one of the top receivers in the country and it will be hard to double-team him because there are options including receivers DeAndrew White, Christion Jones and TE OJ Howard. The line will return three starters including Center Ryan Kelly and RT Austin Shepherd. LG Arie Kouandijo returns for his senior season.

Alabama Crimson Tide (2001 - Pres)

Alabama’s pass rush has been a concern over the last couple of years. This year may be different because the pieces appear to be in place to be a special unit. DE A’Shawn Robinson will step in at the right time and will be joined by junior-college transfers DE Jarren Reed and DE DJ Pettway. All three made an immediate impact in spring practice. Brandon Ivory will return as the nose guard. Finding a way to replace linebacker CJ Mosley will be a difficult task but it appears Trey DePriest is set to take over the leadership role. He has been a two-year starter and now will be the defensive captain. The outside linebackers will consist of Junior Denzel Devall and Xzavier Dickson.  The secondary was Alabama’s weakness on defense last season. Only one starter returns and that is strong safety Landon Collins. Collins is an elite athlete as one of the team’s hardest hitters. Alabama’s defense ranked in the top 10 in three major categories on defense in the country and there is no reason to believe they won’t do the same in 2014. Alabama opens up August 30 against West Virginia in Atlanta with their first real big test coming on September 20 at home against Florida.
