North Texas Mean Green (2005 - Pres)

The Mean Green went 9-4 in 2013 and played in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.  2014 will be full of questions including who will play QB.  There are three players in contention including Andre McNulty, Josh Greer and Dajon Williams.  None of the three stood out in the spring. The offensive line will be a strength after giving up only 11 sacks in 2013. North Texas has to replace their QB, their leading rusher and its top two receivers.  RB Antoinne Jimmerson and WR Carlos Harris will be expected to carry more of the offensive load.

North Texas had a very good defense in 2013 and duplicating those numbers in 2014 will be difficult to duplicate after losing so many starters.  They allowed only 17.7 points per game and 348.3 yards per game and were one of the top defenses in the red zone and sacks.  Senior LB Derek Akunne is the only returning starter from last years’ front seven.  The secondary will be the strength of the defense returning three starters including CB James Jones.

The foundation for a solid football program is in place with Coach Dan McCarney.  The Mean Green are hard to beat at home and winning the programs first bowl game in 10 years is a big step in the right direction.  The question in 2014 will be if they can stay competitive after losing so many key players.
