Last year Coach Troy Calhoun promised to have a more balanced attack on offense and they did juts that since they ran the ball six times more often than they passed it. TB Devin Rushing leads a packed backfield looking for more carries. Also joining Rushing will be JaCobi Owen who had a breakout spring game, and Jon Lee. Nate Romine is the leading QB candidate after seeing limited time in 2013. He threw for 603 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Karson Roberts will likely be in the mix as well. If the Falcons want to throw more they will count on receivers Sam Gagliano, Garrett Brown, Jalen Robinette, Alex Ludowig and Myles Barnes.
The defense saw very little success in 2013. This season they will use more five man fronts and not the 3-4. In order to do so they will need more quality defensive linemen. Good luck! Right now they will count on Joseph Champaign, Nick Fitzgerald, Robert Green, Alex Hansen, David Harris, Troy Timmerman and Ryan Watson. LB’s Joey Nichol and Spencer Proctor will have more ability to roam with a five man front.
One of the key changes in position was moving strong safety Dexter Walker to OLB and Jordan Mays from safety to corner. The Falcons are also expected to see dB Weston Steelhammer into the starting line-up alongside FS Christian Spears.
The Falcons re-vamped their coaching staff after going 2-10 and 0-8 in the MWC. They will stay with one offense and one starting QB instead of four. This program is in a re-building mode than may take several more years to complete.
