1948 New York Yankees slugger Joe DiMaggio hit three consecutive home runs to help the Yankees defeat the Cleveland Indians, 6-5.
1970 The San Francisco Giants fired manager Clyde King. They named Charlie Fox their new manager.
1984 The Detroit Tigers tied an American League record winning their 16th consecutive road game with a 4-2 victory over the California Angels.
1991 Philadelphia Phillies RHP Tommy Greene tossed a no hitter in a 2-0 victory over the Montreal Expos.
1999 Baltimore Orioles OF Brady Anderson got hit twice by a pitch in the same inning to set an American League record.
2000 Seattle's Rickey Henderson became the third player in baseball history to be walked 2000 times.
2002 Los Angeles' Shawn Green became the 14th player in baseball history to hit four home runs in one game.
2010 Former All-Star right-hander Jose Lima passed away due to a heart attack. He was 37.
2010 Dustin Byfuglien and Kris Versteeg scored late in the third period as the Chicago Blackhawks reached the championship round for the first time since 1992 after rallying from a two-goal deficit to post a 4-2 decision over the San Jose Sharks in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.
2011 The Portland Trail Blazers fired general manager Rich Cho.
2012 The San Francisco 49ers signed punter Andy Lee to a six-year contract extension.
