1981 The Minnesota Twins fired manager Johnny Goryl. Billy Gardner was named the new manager.
1992 The Montreal Expos fired manager Tom Runnells. Felipe Alou was named the new manager.
1998 The New York Mets traded Preston Wilson, Geoff Goetz and Ed Yarnell to the Marlins for catcher Mike Piazza.
1999 New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens broke the American League record for consecutive victories with 19.
2001 For the second time this season, San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Bonds homered in six consecutive games.
2003 Arturo (Arte) Moreno purchased the World Champion Anaheim Angels from Walt Disney for $184 million to become the third owner in the 43-year history of the franchise.
