1977 Kansas City's Jim Colborn tossed a no-hitter in team's 6-0 victory over the Texas Rangers.
1977 The Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup, beating the Boston Bruins in four games.
1981 The Boston Celtics won the NBA championship, beating the Houston Rockets in six games.
1986 St. Louis Cardinals utility man Jose Oquendo became the first non-pitcher to get a major league decision losing to the Braves in nineteen innings, 7-5.
1996 Dwight Gooden became the eighth Yankees pitcher to throw a no-hitter in the team's 2-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
2008 Top-ranked Belgian tennis star Justine Henin retired.
