We’re less than two months from the most profound moment in NCAA history, and Mark Emmert made it clear Friday morning where college sports’ organizing body stands.
           
Like it or not, this will be the NCAA’s defense when the Ed O’Bannon case—the image and likeness litigation that could end the idea of amateur sports as we know it—begins on June 9:
           
Athletes are privileged to be attending college.

As grotesquely simplistic as that sounds, it might also be the only defense the NCAA has in this landmark case.
