In two decisions that should surprise no one that kept an eye on college basketball this season, Doug McDermott of Creighton and Gregg Marshall of Wichita State were announced as The Associated Press Player and Coach of the Year, respectively.
McDermott spent the entire season solidifying himself as one of the best in college basketball, not only this season but also in the history of the game. The 6'8" forward finished his senior season leading the nation with 26.7 points per game and 934 total points.
As for Marshall, the Shockers' head coach led the team to a 35-1 record, but he was unable to advance out of the round of 32 just like McDermott's Creighton team. Wichita State rattled off 35 straight wins under Marshall, which broke the record—UNLV started 34-0 in 1990-91—for most wins without a loss in a single season.
