Betting on MLB Opening Day

March 28, 2014
INDIANA SPORTS PAGE

While it may not receive the same media coverage it used to, MLB's Opening Day still holds a special meaning for baseball fans. Similar to March Madness, Opening Day features a full slate of national broadcasts amidst the excitement of the return of baseball. Also, the day is reserved for the best starting pitchers, as getting the call to open the season ranks high on every hurler's priority list – and it also provides us with a number of premium matchups that are usually reserved for the playoffs. It can be said that Opening Day has it all, but there are ways to make it even more interesting.

It may be the only sport where everyone can really beat anyone, and on Opening Day it becomes even more difficult to predict the outcomes of each game. Even if you have followed Spring Training closely, most of the things don't compare at all to a real game, as players can still be rusty, out-of-place or generally still in preseason mode. On the other hand, some others will be ahead of the curve and in the proverbial mid-season form, but it is hard to tell ones from the others before seeing even a handful of games.
