1984 Winnipeg's Dale Hawerchuk set the NHL record for most assists in one period, getting five in the 2nd period of a 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
1988 Julie Krone became the winningest female jockey in racing history winning her 1,205th race.
1997 Former Dodgers' manager Tommy Lasorda was selected by the Veterans Committee into baseball's Hall of Fame.
1997 The Philadelphia Flyers sued their flagship radio station WIP-AM for libel due to a story concerning star centerman Eric Lindros.
2002 Alice Bauer died of complications from colon cancer. Bauer was one of the original founders of the LPGA. She was 74.
