1962 Philadelphia Warriors center Wilt Chamberlain recorded his fifth straight game of 50-or-more points, scoring 58 against the New York Knicks.
1968 Joe Frazier took out Buster Mathis in the 11th round to win the vacant world heavyweight title at Madison Square Garden in New York.
1981 Montreal's Guy LaFleur recorded his 1,000th point, as the Canadiens rolled to a 9-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.
1990 Loyola Marymount star Hank Gathers collapsed and died during a West Coast Conference tournament game against Portland. The 23-year old, a sure-fire early first round pick in the next NBA draft, was one of only two Division I players to lead the nation in scoring and rebounding.
2002 Baltimore Ravens QB Elvis Grbac retired.
2004 The Denver Broncos traded RB Clinton Portis to the Washington Redskins for CB Champ Bailey and a second round draft pick.
2008 The San Francisco 49ers signed WR Issac Bruce to a two-year contract.
2008 Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp retired.
2009 The Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed outfielder Manny Ramirez to a two-year contract worth $45 million.
2009 The Arizona Cardinals re-signed QB Kurt Warner to a two-year contract.
2010 Washington Redskins left tackle Chris Samuels announced his retirement.
2011 The NBA played its first ever regular season game in London, England. The New Jersey Nets defeated the Toronto Raptors, 116-103.
2012 The Seattle Seahawks re-signed RB Marshawn Lynch to a four-year contract.
2013 The Baltimore Ravens re-signed QB Joe Flacco to a six-year, $120.6 million contract, (52 million guaranteed) that made him the highest- paid player in NFL history.
2013 The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed WR Dwayne Bowe to a five-year contract.
