BIG EAST: Cotton, Reynolds Claim MBB Weekly Awards

Two players who helped propel their teams over the last seven days received BIG EAST weekly men's basketball honors on Monday. Providence guard Bryce Cotton claimed his second straight and third Player of the Week nod this season while Xavier's Jalen Reynolds was named the Rookie of the Week for the first time.

The Musketeers went 2-0 with a win at St. John's and a home triumph against No. 9 Creighton. The Friars won their only game of the week at Seton Hall. They were crucial victories for teams looking to improve their standing in the BIG EAST before the conference tournament next week at Madison Square Garden.

BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bryce Cotton, G, Providence
Cotton scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished three assists and did not commit a turnover in a 74-69 victory at Seton Hall. It was Providence's only game of the week. He played all 40 minutes in the Seton Hall win and leads the nation in minutes played (39.9). Cotton is second in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 21.6 average and is first in assists with a 5.8 mark.

BIG EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jalen Reynolds, F, Xavier
Reynolds averaged 11.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in wins against St. John's and Creighton. He tied the school freshman record with 16 rebounds in the St. John's game while scoring 17 points. Both totals were career highs.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Doug McDermott, F, Creighton
Scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a loss at Xavier.

Brandon Young, G, DePaul
Averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals in a 1-1 week.

D'Angelo Harrison, G, St. John's
Averaged 14.5 points and 7.5 boards in a 1-1 week. Had 25 points in win over DePaul.

Darrun Hilliard, G, Villanova
Had a career-high 26 points in a win over Marquette and averaged 18 points in a 2-0 week.
