Sophomores Isaiah Austin (Baylor) and Perry Ellis (Kansas) will share the latest Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor, while BU guard Kenny Chery is the league’s Newcomer of the Week. Ellis and Chery win their second accolades this season, while Austin is recognized for the first time.

Austin led Baylor to consecutive Big 12 wins for the first time this season as the Bears won at TCU and defeated Kansas State in double-overtime. The sophomore center averaged 16.0 points, 6.5 blocks, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 35.5 minutes per game. The top performance came versus K-State, as he had 18 points, nine blocked shots and seven boards, playing a career-high 41 minutes. Included in his effort was a rebound with three seconds remaining which led to an assist on the game-tying 3-pointer by Brady Heslip at the end of regulation. The nine rejections was one less than the school record. Austin made 11-of-20 (.550) field goals on the week and was 8-of-10 (.800) from the free throw line.
Perry Ellis, Kansas, F, So., 6-8, 225, Wichita, Kan./Wichita Heights
Ellis averaged 25.5 points and 9.5 rebounds as the Jayhawks dropped an overtime decision at K-State before defeating TCU in Lawrence. The sophomore forward turned in his top effort against the Horned Frogs, scoring a career-high 32 points on 13-of-15 (.867) shooting. For the week, he shot 64.3 percent (18-of-28), including 2-of-3 (.667) from 3-point range, while converting 13-of-16 (.813) from the free throw line. Ellis has four double-doubles this year and has led the Jayhawks in scoring each of the last two contests.

Chery recorded the 14th triple-double in Big 12 history and the sixth in Baylor history in the Bears’ double-overtime victory over the Wildcats. He had 20 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds in the contest, becoming the first BU player to record a triple-double in a conference game. It was the seventh for a league player in a Big 12 game, as Baylor players boast a conference-best four of the 14 triple-doubles in the league record book. For the week, Chery averaged 11.5 points, 9.5 assists and 8.0 rebounds in 33.0 minutes.
