Hot-Shooting Bulldogs Defeat Visiting Georgetown

INDIANAPOLIS – Senior guard Mandy McDivitt connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the second half with 56 seconds remaining, bringing the Bulldog lead to six and securing a 67-59 victory over the visiting Georgetown Hoyas in a BIG EAST matchup at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Feb. 15. The victory brings to Bulldogs to 12-13 on the season and 7-7 in conference.
Going blow-for-blow for most of the second half, the Bulldogs pulled away with five minutes remaining on a layup from senior forward Daress McClung, bringing the lead to 53-46. McClung and junior center Liz Stratman both picked up their fourth fouls on back-to-back plays with just under five minutes remaining in regulation, allowing the Hoyas to bring the game with three points with 1:42 on the clock. McDivitt hit the dagger with 56 seconds left, giving the Bulldogs a lead the Hoyas (8-18, 2-12 BIG EAST) would never overcome.
After struggling from 3-point range in the first half, the Bulldogs shot 5-9 (56%) from deep in the second half. McDivitt sank all four of her 3-point attempts in the second period, finishing with 12 points and two assists.
The Bulldogs got out to a hot start in the first half, leading 13-5 with 13 minutes remaining in the period. Georgetown, led by forward Andrea White (18 points, nine rebounds), responded with a 15-0 run, holding Butler without a basket for eight minutes. The two teams battled in the final five minutes of the period, heading into halftime tied 26-26.
Senior forward Daress McClung led the Bulldogs in scoring, finishing the game with 20 points and six rebounds. McClung continues to inch closer to the 1,000 career point mark, bringing her total to 954 points with four games remaining.
Stratman had 13 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, and three steals on 4-9 shooting. Sophomore guard Lexus Murry added ten points, five rebounds, and three assists for the Bulldogs.
Butler will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 22 with an 8 p.m. tip at DePaul.
