WBB Suffers 87-64 Loss To Akron In MAC Play Saturday

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State University women's basketball team (10-13, 5-7 MAC) suffered a 87-64 loss to Akron (15-8, 9-3 MAC) in Worthen Arena Saturday afternoon.
Ball State was held to a 32.8 shooting percentage for the game and trailed from the start to the end, while Akron managed a 47.5 shooting percentage. The Zips won the glass out-rebounding the Cardinals 43-to-39.
For the game Brandy Woody led the Cardinals with 17 points bringing the senior guard closer to the 1,000 point mark, currently she has 931 points for her career. Woody and Calyn Hosea each pulled down eight rebounds on the day. Shelbie Justice ended the game with 10 points.
The Zips carried their first half momentum into the second half as the Cardinals were unable to dig themselves out of their halftime deficit.
Akron started the game off with a 12-0 run over the Cardinals and held Ball State scoreless up until the 15:11 mark which came off of a jumper from Katie Murphy.
The Zips then went up by 16 (18-2) with 13:59 remaining in the first half, the Cardinals went on a 10-2 run to make it an eight-point ball game (20-12) which was capped off by a three point basket from Justice.
After that, Akron continued to stay hot from the floor eventually building a 25-point cushion (42-17) with just over a minute left in the half. The Zips would end intermission up 44-22 over the Cardinals.
The Ball State women's basketball team continues Mid-American Conference cross divisional action when Ball State travels to Miami Thursday for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff in Millett Hall.
