Oklahoma State's at-large hopes took biggest hits before Smart's shove

Contrary to popular belief, the worst thing to happen to Oklahoma State’s NCAA Tournament chances wasn’t Marcus Smart’s momentary meltdowntoward the end of the Cowboys’ loss to Texas Tech last Saturday.

That moment just accelerated the piling-on process, albeit in rather sensationalized fashion. And the thoroughly uninspired “effort” at Texas on Tuesday night was another spur in the shins (they trailed by as many as 29 points before falling, 87-68). No, the worst thing to happen to OSU’s tournament resume happened in the head-scratching hours before The Shove. Throughout that game at Texas Tech, the Cowboys — who were a preseason Top-10 team in the polls — showed why they probably aren’t an NCAA Tournament-caliber team at this point of the season.
