SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University, 10-1 in West Coast Conference play, the team which handed the Bulldogs their lone West Coast Conference loss this season when the University of Portland visits Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The Pilots won 82-73 in the Chiles Center to snap a 20-game losing streak against the Bulldogs in the series.

With seven games remaining, Gonzaga is closing in on its 15th West Coast Conference title in the last 17 seasons. The Zags have at least a three-game edge in the loss column over the rest of the field.

The largest bulge for the conference champion dating all the way back to its roots in 1952-53 was Gonzaga’s six-game margin in 2006 when the Bulldogs went 14-0 and Saint Mary’s and Loyola Marymount tied for second at 8-6. The Bulldogs won the league by five games in 2004 and 1994. The last non-Gonzaga team to win the league by more than four games was Pepperdine (14-0) in 1992 with Santa Clara (9-5) second.

Gonzaga is currently tied with the University of Kentucky for fourth in the NCAA Division I ranks for the longest current home winning streak at 22 games. Duke University holds the top spot with 29 wins while Stephen F. Austin University and the University of Florida are tied for second with 28.
