No. 25/22 Panthers Travel to Miami for Wednesday Game

CORAL GABLES, Fla.--No. 25/22 Pitt (18-3, 6-2 ACC) travels to Miami (11-10, 2-6 ACC) for a Wednesday, Feb. 5, contest at the BankUnited Center. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The game will be televised on RSN/Root with Wes Durham (play-by-play) and Cory Alexander (color analysis) making the call. Joe Vencius will handle production.

At 6-3 in ACC competition, Pitt enters the game in a third place tie with Duke, two full games behind Virginia in the standings. Miami sits in a tie for 13th at 2-6, while undefeated Syracuse is the league's leader with a perfect 8-0 record.

In the NCAA's updated RPI rankings released on Monday, Feb. 3, Pitt ranked No. 26. Six ACC teams are ranked among the nation's top-60 in RPI: Syracuse (3), Duke (11), Virginia (16), Pitt (26), Florida State (40) and North Carolina (42).

Pitt has won its 18 games by an average margin of 14.7 points per game. Sixteen of Pitt's 18 wins have come by nine or more points and 12 of its 18 are by 17 points or more. Offensively, the Panthers are averaging 74.4 points per game, converting 47.8 percent (569-1190) of field goals, 35.4 percent (105-297) of 3-point field goals and a solid 71.8 percent (394-549) of free throw attempts. Pitt is also outrebounding its opponents by a sizable plus-8.1 margin. Defensively, Pitt is holding its opponents to 60.5 points per game and yielding a 40.6 (471-1161) field goal percentage. Eighteen of Pitt's 22 opponents have been held to 70 points or less and 12 have been limited to 60 points or less.

Through nine Atlantic Coast Conference games, Pitt has outscored its six opponents by a plus-7.6 margin. Pitt is shooting 47.5 percent (216-455) and 40 percent (40-100) from 3-point range. National/ACC Player of the Year/First Team candidate Lamar Patterson is averaging 18.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game and Talib Zanna nearly averages a double-double in points (14.3) and rebounds (8.1).

At home, Pitt is 12-2 this year, has won 14 of its last 16 games and owns a 19-game consecutive win streak against non-conference opponents. In its 12th season in the Petersen Events Center, Pitt owns a 192-24 overall record in the arena and a 78-21 conference record (3-2 vs. ACC/75-19 vs. Big East). Pitt also owns a 110-3 record vs. non-conference opponents at the Petersen Events Center and has won 131 of its last 135 home games against regular season non-conference opponents.

Miami hosts Pitt for the first time since 2004. At 2-6 in the ACC, the Hurricanes sit in 13th place in the conference and are on a three-game ACC losing streak. Miami recently stepped out of conference to pick up a 64-49 win over Norfolk State on Feb. 1. For the year, the Hurricanes have been paced by Rion Brown who is averaging 14 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

  • Pitt has won five of its last six road games and nine of its last 12. Pitt is 3-1 on the road this season.
  • Pitt coach Jamie Dixon owns a 17-2 record vs. previous ACC teams and a 33-13 overall record vs. current ACC teams (including Syracuse and Notre Dame).
  • Lamar Patterson has emerged as a national player of the year candidate (Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List) and an ACC Player of the Year candidate.
  • When comparing ACC basketball programs over the last 13 years, Pitt ranks second among league programs in overall winning percentage (337-100, .771), league winning percentage (147-66, .690), homecourt winning percentage (.889) and NCAA Tournament appearances (11).
