WASHINGTON CAPITALS (22-20-8) AT NEW JERSEY DEVILS (21-19-11), 7 P.M.
(SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Capitals are currently mired in a lengthy slump and once again it's possible Alex Ovechkin won't be there to help them get out of it.
With or without the NHL's leading goal-scorer, the Capitals hope to end a six- game slide when they visit the New Jersey Devils for Friday's battle at the Prudential Center.
Washington is 0-4-2 over its last six outings and the club has lost the last four in regulation. Ovechkin, who is pacing the league with 35 goals, has been absent the last two games due to a lower-body injury and he missed practice again on Thursday. However, the three-time Hart Trophy winner is making the trip to New Jersey and he is considered questionable for Friday's tilt.
The Capitals have scored more than one goal on just one occasion during its current skid and they were shut out 2-0 in Tuesday's home test against the Ottawa Senators. Craig Anderson made 34 saves to keep Washington off the board, as the Caps fell for the 10th time in 12 games (2-6-4).
