1958 Canadian born Willie O'Ree became the NHL's first black player for the Boston Bruins.
1976 Terry Bradshaw's 64-yard touchdown pass to Lynn Swann and Glen Edwards interception on the final play of the game, highlighted the Pittsburgh Steelers' 21-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys to notch their second consecutive Super Bowl win.
1992 Brett Hull scored a pair of goals to lift the Campbell Conference All Stars to a 10-6 win over the Wales Conference All Stars.
1997 Mario Lemieux had two goals and an assist and Wayne Gretzky added an assist as the East All Stars defeated the West All Stars, 11-7.
1997 The San Diego Chargers named Kevin Gilbride their new head coach.
1998 Vancouver's Mark Messier scored the winning goal four minutes into the third period, as the North America All Stars held off the World All Stars, 8-7, in the NHL All Star Game.
1998 Glory's Comet won the Horsemen's Trotting Series final at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.
1999 Roger Neilson became only the 11th coach in NHL history to record 400 wins, as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Ottawa Senators, 5-0.

2009 The Edmonton Oilers retired Glenn Anderson's #9 jersey.
2010 Rachel Alexandra was named 2009 Horse of the Year.
2012 The Texas Rangers agreed to terms with Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish on a six-year contract worth $60 million.
2012 The Los Angeles Galaxy re-signed midfielder David Beckham to a two-year contract worth $15 million.
2013 The Arizona Cardinals named Bruce Arians their new head coach.
