The Southeastern Conference announced its most recent men's basketball honors Monday, recognizing outstanding performances on the court from the first week of league play.

Georgia’s Charles Mann, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound sophomore guard from Alpharetta, Ga., was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 20 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in wins at Missouri and against Alabama. Mann had team scoring honors in both of Georgia’s wins last week, helping the Bulldogs to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2002.  He played 42 of a possible 45 minutes in the overtime win at 21st-ranked Missouri, scoring the last two of his team-high 18 points with 34 seconds left in overtime, putting Georgia ahead for good.  He scored 22 points in Georgia’s home win over Alabama, including 14 in the second half.  Mann made 13 of 18 foul shots in the game; his 18 attempts were the fourth most in UGA history and most by a Georgia player in 10 years.

South Carolina’s Sindarius Thornwell, a 6-foot-5, 206-pound freshman guard from Lancaster, S.C., was named SEC?Freshman of the Week after averaging 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists against 10th-ranked Florida and LSU. Thornwell shot 66.7 percent (12-18) from the field in posting 10 points at Florida, and a season high 25 points against LSU on Saturday. He was a perfect 2-of-2 from 3-point range against Florida while collecting three steals to match his season high. Against LSU, Thornwell scored a season best 25 points, including 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting in the first half.
