Berea, Ky. (October 7th, 2013) - The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference is proud to announce Player of the Week honors for September 30th
- October 6th in Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Men's Soccer,
Women's Soccer, Volleyball, and Women's Tennis



Micayla Speidel, Indiana University Kokomo - Volleyball Player of the Week

Freshman - Columbus, IN



Indiana University Kokomo freshman Micayla Speidel was named the KIAC
volleyball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October 7th. IU
Kokomo finished the week with a 4-1 record. They defeated Indiana Northwest
(3-0), Alice Lloyd College (3-0), Midway College (3-0) and Carlow University
(3-0). Speidel finished the week with a .346 hitting percentage and
collected 53 kills in 5 matches last week. She ranks 3rd in NAIA total kills
(367) and is 19th in kills per game (3.9). She leads the KIAC in kills and
is 4th in hitting percentage. IU Kokomo is currently 23-6 overall and 8-2 in
conference play. They will return to action on October 12th when they host
Purdue University-North Central.



Alejandra Matiz, Brescia University - Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Junior - Bogota, Columbia



Brescia University junior Alejandra Matiz was named the KIAC women's tennis
player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October 7th. Brescia
finished the week 2-0 after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College (9-0) and
Carlow University (9-0). Matiz won her #2 singles match against Kentucky
Wesleyan 6-1, 6-1 and #1 doubles match 8-5. She won here #2 singles match
against Carlow 6-0, 6-0 and her doubles match 8-2. Brescia is currently 7-1
overall and 4-1 in conference play. They will return to action on October
11th when they travel to McKendree University.



Derrik Whiten, Point Park University -Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the
Week

6-0 Sophomore - Vandergrift, PA



Point Park University sophomore Derrik Whiten was named the KIAC men's
soccer defensive player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October
7th. Point Park finished the week 3-0 after defeating Thiel College (6-1),
Cincinnati Christian University (11-0) and Wittenberg University (5-0).
Whiten only allowed a single goal last week. The Pioneers are currently
6-5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. They will return to action on
October 12th when they host Asbury University.



Ousman Jaiteh, Point Park University - Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the
Week

5-8 Senior - Gambia, West Africa



Point Park University senior Ousman Jaiteh was named the KIAC men's soccer
offensive player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October 7th. Point
Park finished the week 3-0 after defeating Thiel College (6-1), Cincinnati
Christian University (11-0) and Wittenberg University (5-0). Jaiteh scored
five goals in three games. He recorded a hat trick against Cincinnati
Christian and tallied two goals against Wittenberg. The Pioneers are
currently 6-5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. They will return to
action on October 12th when they host Asbury University.



Katherine Downey, Berea College - Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the
Week

5-8 Senior - Jackson, OH



Berea College senior Katherine Downey was named the KIAC women's soccer
defensive player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October 7th. Berea
defeated Brescia 4-1 at home and they defeated Warren Wilson College 2-1 on
the road. Downey only allowed two goals last week leading the Mountaineers
to a 2-0 record. She currently ranks 3rd in NAIA saves per game (11.43).
Berea is currently 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. They will return
to action on October 12th when they travel to Midway College.



Morgan Jones, Berea College - Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

5-7 Freshman - Louisville, KY



Berea College freshman Morgan Jones was named the KIAC women's soccer
offensive player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October 7th. Berea
defeated Brescia 4-1 at home and they defeated Warren Wilson College 2-1 on
the road. Jones scored a pair of goals on Saturday against Warren Wilson to
lead Berea to a 2-1 victory. Berea is currently 4-4 overall and 2-3 in
conference play. They will return to action on October 12th when they travel
to Midway College.



Mercy Kershner, Berea College - Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Junior - Mansfield, PA



Berea College junior Mercy Kershner was named the KIAC women's cross country
runner of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October 7th. Berea competed
in the Greater Louisville Invitational on October 5th. The event includes
schools from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA. Kershner finished 23rd out
of 281 runners in the 5k with a time of 20:03. Berea will return to action
on October 18th at the Wilmington College Fall Classic in Wilmington, OH.



Jeremy Johnson, Berea College - Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Sophomore - Austin, IN



Berea College sophomore Jeremy Johnson was named the KIAC men's cross
country runner of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October 7th. This is
his third runner of the week award of the season. Berea competed in the
Greater Louisville Invitational on October 5th. The event includes schools
from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA. Johnson finished 22nd out of 289
runners in the 8k with a time of 26:13. Berea will return to action on
October 18th at the Wilmington College Fall Classic in Wilmington, OH.
