MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State’s Mid-American Conference schedule for the upcoming men’s basketball season was revealed Tuesday with the announcement of the league slate for the 2013-14 campaign.
For the first time since the 2005-06 season, the conference schedule will include 18 games. For the past seven years, it has been a 16-game league schedule.
As always, Ball State will play each of the other five MAC West Division teams twice. The Cardinals will also play two randomly selected MAC East Division teams -- Akron and Buffalo -- twice and each of the remaining MAC East teams once.
The Cardinals, under the direction of first-year head coach James Whitford, open the conference schedule in January with three straight games against perennial title contenders, starting Jan. 8 at home against Akron. After hosting the defending league champion Zips, Ball State will make back-to-back road trips to Kent State and Ohio.
In total, Ball State will begin conference play with five straight games against East Division opponents before facing its first West Division foe Jan. 26 at Western Michigan.
In addition to the opener with Akron, the Cardinals’ remaining eight MAC home dates include Jan. 18 vs. Miami University, Jan. 23 vs. Buffalo, Feb. 1 vs. Northern Illinois, Feb. 8 vs. Toledo, Feb. 12 vs. Eastern Michigan, Feb. 15 vs. Bowling Green, Feb. 26 vs. Western Michigan and March 1 vs. Central Michigan.
The 2014 MAC Tournament will begin March 10 with first-round games on campus sites and then continue March 12-15 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Cardinals’ non-conference schedule for the 2013-14 season is near completion and will be announced once it is finalized.
