1978 Yankees pitcher Ron Guidry set an AL record for LHP with 18 Ks in a game vs. California.
1979 Hale Irwin finished at even-par 284 at the Inverness Club to win his second U.S. Open title.
1988 Indian Alert, driven by Jack Moiseyev, set the world record for pacing geldings by winning in 1:51.1 at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
