Franklin College Earns Second HCAC Commissioner’s Cup

GREENWOOD, IN – Franklin College has captured the eighth annual Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The award is given to the athletic
department that registers the most all-sports points in both men’s and women’s
athletics during the academic year. Franklin garnered 126.7 total points during the
2012-13 campaign.



The Grizzlies earned 60.7 points in women’s competition during the year, finishing
second in the women’s trophy standings.  Franklin finished second in the HCAC Men’s
All-Sports race with 66.0 points.



Franklin registered three conference championships during the academic year. The
Grizzlies won titles in women’s tennis, women’s golf, and football.  The Franklin
athletic programs were consistent across the board, claiming second-place finishes
in women’s basketball, women’s outdoor track & field, and men’s indoor & outdoor
track & field.



The Grizzlies finished 5.7 points ahead of second-place Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology in the Commissioner’s Cup standings. The Engineers finished with 121.0
total points. Hanover College finished third in the standings with 114.0 points and
was followed by Transylvania University with 109.0 points. Manchester University
placed fifth with 105.4 points, while Defiance College (89.7), Anderson University
(75.3), College of Mount St. Joseph (60.2), Bluffton University (55.8), and Earlham
College (50.0) rounded out the standings.



The Franklin College athletic department is led by Athletic Director Kerry Prather.



The 2012-13 academic year was the eighth for the Commissioner’s Cup. The award is
based on accumulation of points in the HCAC’s 18 championships as well as wrestling,
men’s swimming, women’s swimming, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, and women’s
lacrosse.
