MARION, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's tennis team clinched a top-three seed for the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a 6-3 win against Indiana University Southeast on April 20 in the opening match of the Indiana Wesleyan University Mark Richards Classic. IU East (8-6, 3-2) defeated IU Southeast (8-7, 3-3) for the first time in the Red Wolves men's tennis history. IU Southeast has played in the KIAC championship match every year since IU East joined the league. Redshirt junior Josh Hollingsworth (Richmond, Ind./Indiana University), and sophomores Ty Butler (Wadesville, Ind./North Posey High School) and Derek Blank (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan High School) won in singles and doubles for IU East. Blank's three-set win at win at No. 6 singles clinched the team victory for IU East. Butler improved to 10-4 overall with his win at No. 3 singles and became the first IU East men's player to record 10 singles wins in a season. Hollingsworth is 8-6 for the year at No. 1 singles. The IU East women fell 6-3 against NAIA No. 35 IU Southeast. Redshirt junior Paige Froman (Rushville, Ind./Ball State University) won at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Red Wolves. IU East won individual matches against IU Southeast for the first time. Both IU East teams finished the day with 9-0 losses against Indiana Wesleyan. Both Wildcat teams are ranked in the NAIA's top 25. The IU East men play their final regular season KIAC match on April 22 at Alice Lloyd College.

The tournament was the spring season finale for the IU East women (4-5).
