INDIANA PRESS RELEASE

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Indiana University baseball team suffered just its fifth loss of the season, dropping the series opener, 2-1, in 12 innings at Michigan State (19-11, 3-4 Big Ten). #12 Indiana (26-5, 8-2) wasted a pitching gem by Joey DeNato, who scattered eight hits with a lone run in a 7.2-inning no decision.

Michigan State's Andrew Waszak stood toe-to-toe with DeNato and had to settle for a no decision as well after tossing eight innings and offering up just one run.

The Hoosiers drew first blood, getting to Waszak for a run in the third frame. Nick Ramos ignited the tally with a one-out double down the line. He then moved on over to third when Chad Clark rolled a single through the left side of the infield. Justin Curetoncompleted Ramos' trip around the bases, lifting a sacrifice fly to give Indiana a 1-0 lead.

Several defensive web gems by Indiana secured the 1-0 advantage for the next six innings before MSU finally broke through in the eighth. The Spartans' run mirrored Indiana's, coming from the bottom of the batting order. Following singles from the `8-9' hitters, Ryan Richardson flared a duck snort single to push one across and even the ledger at 1-1.

Indiana stranded a runner in both the ninth and 10th innings while no-hitting the Spartans during the same two-inning stretch. The Spartan stifling halted in the 11th, however, as Michigan State produced a two-out rally. Anthony Cheky followed up his single by stealing second and third base. MSU then stole the victory on Jimmy Pickens' walk-off chopper up the middle.

Game Two of the weekend series is slated for a 1:05 pm first pitch on Saturday. Sophomore southpaw Kyle Hart is expected to take the bump for Indiana.
