The Red Storm went 3-0 last week and the Wildcats went 2-3.
Schwindel went 10-for-13 (.769) in a 3-0 week for St. John’s to earn BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week honors. The junior first-baseman recorded four RBI, three doubles and did not strike out. Schwindel had a hit in six straight at bats against Farleigh Dickinson and Holy Cross.
Young had a career-high 18 strikeouts in an 8-2 win over Chicago State on March 15 to be named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The junior’s single-game strikeout total ranks first in Division I, and is the most in a game by a Division I pitcher in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Young allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings.
Honor Roll
Jeff Thompson, Louisville, Jr., RHP Thompson pitched eight scoreless innings with five hits allowed and four strikeouts against Xavier in a 4-0 week for Louisville.
Eric Jagielo, Notre Dame, Jr., 3B Jagielo batted 7-for-14 in a 2-2 week, including one double, one home run and two RBI in the series win over Cal Poly.
Adam Norton, Notre Dame, Sr., RHP Norton tossed eight shutout innings against Cal Poly, striking out five and walking one in a 1-0 win.
Zack Granite, Seton Hall, Jr., OF Granite went 8-for-18 (.556) with five RBI and eight runs scored with eight steals in a 3-1 week.
Alex Mendez, Sr., USF, OF Mendez extended his hitting streak to 12 after going 9-for-19 in a 3-2 week. The senior also recorded 10 RBI, two doubles and one home run.
